23 September, 2020

Today, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Armenia Nicholas Schmermers presented his credentials to the President of the Republic Armen Sargsyan.

"I am glad to be the first resident Ambassador of the Netherlands to Armenia ," said Nicholas Schmermers, conveying the greetings and best wishes of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands to the President and people of Armenia. The newly appointed ambassador said that he expects fruitful and effective activities for the benefit of the development and expansion of bilateral cooperation.

President Armen Sargsyan congratulated the Ambassador on entering the diplomatic service in our country and expressed confidence that he would use his diplomatic experience to further strengthen the Armenian-Dutch friendly relations.

Considering the deepening of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries as one of his primary goals, Ambassador Schmermers stressed the interest of Dutch companies working in various fields in Armenia.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation in different directions. President Sargsyan particularly touched upon the ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) presidential initiative, noting that within the framework of this project aimed at the development of science and new technologies in Armenia, great attention will be paid especially to artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, digital data management and a number of other spheres. Announcing that within the framework of the initiative there is a preliminary agreement to cooperate with a number of major technology companies in the world, such as well-known universities and scientific centers, President Sargsyan noted that they will be happy to cooperate with Dutch companies, universities and scientific centers.
